We had lots of fun learning about the letter Ii. 

We made igloos, ink splot paintings and we got to use the new school ipads! 

We played phonic and problem solving games on the ipad.

We added more words to our popcorn words list too.

We used these words to write a new book called

"Where is my Igloo". 

Alfoil Artists

When we studied the letter Aa we became Alfoil Artists.

We made alphabet soup with letter stickers.  We had to put the stickers in alphabetical order...it took a lot of concentration!

Today our wrapper count was down to only 6 and that made us this month's winner of Wrapper Free Wednesday!

Wrapper Free Wednesday

Tomorrow, Wednesday 21 March is WRAPPER FREE WEDNESDAY.

We had 23 wrappers in our lunch boxes today and we are trying to lower that number tomorrow! 

Please ask the children for suggestions as to how to reduce wrappers - we talked about it today.

Popcorn Words

During the course of this year the children will begin to build a bank of sight words to add to their 'reading skills toolbox'.  In Prep B we call these sight words Popcorn Words - because you should recognise them as quickly as popcorn popping in a pan!

So far we have introduced three Popcorn Words...

 

I and my and see

 

You can help the children remember these words by identifying them in bedtime stories, writing little stories using the words as sentence starters, or making little flashcards or memory type games.  Even leave little notes for them to find with the words on.  It's meant to be fun and enjoyable - and exciting and rather clever too!

Wishing Well

From time to time we need a top up of some of our basic supplies.  We have put a 'Wishing Well' on the wall outside our classrooms to put little sticky notes with things we need.  If you would like to donate any of the items (playdough ingredients, collage materials, cleaning supplies etc) please take a post it and add it to your shopping list!  We greatly appreciate your generosity!  Donations can be left in the kitchen - thanks again!

Filming

On Friday morning the crew from Channel 10 came to visit and film us making monsters with playdough.

Paris interviewed us about our creations.

Mrs Davidson-Irwin will send us a copy of the episode when it's finished.

The Workers

A Chanel 10 film crew are coming to Prep tomorrow morning to film scenes for The Workers.  Please ensure all the permission forms are signed ane returned first thing in the morning.  Without these forms the children can't take part in the filming. 

Special Visitors

Today Michael and Lauren came to visit our class.  They are from the Channel 10 show Wurrawhy.  They sang songs with us and we played instruments and had a great time. 

We sang 'If You're Happy and You Know It Clap Your Hands', 'Koala Cafe' and' Johnny works with One Hammer'.  Lauren had written a song about the rain and she taught it to us.  We got to make the sound of the rain while we sang.

They will be our special helpers until Friday.

The Magic Hat

We read the Magic Hat by Mem Fox.  She used lots of rhyming words in her story which made it easier for us to join in.  We made up more rhyming words after reading the book.  We also made our own Magic Hats and thought about what we'd like to turn into.
